The Basic of Scissor Lift
A scissor lift is a mechanical device used to elevate workers and materials to various heights. It features a crisscrossing (scissor-like) metal support system that extends or retracts via hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power. Commonly used in construction, warehousing, and maintenance, scissor lifts provide stable, vertical lifting with platforms ranging from 10 to 50 feet.
They come in different types, including electric (for indoor use) and rough-terrain (for outdoor projects). Safety features like guardrails and emergency stop buttons ensure secure operation. Ideal for tasks requiring repetitive height adjustments, they enhance efficiency and workplace safety.

1
Platform
The platform is the working area where operators and materials are stationed. Constructed from high-strength steel or aluminum, it features anti-slip surfaces for safety and guardrails to prevent falls. Some models include extendable decks for increased workspace. Designed for stability and durability, it supports heavy loads while ensuring operator comfort. Platforms may also have safety sensors to detect overloads or obstructions, complying with OSHA and ANSI standards for workplace safety.
2
Scissors
The scissors mechanism consists of interlinked, folding steel supports that extend and retract to raise or lower the platform. Powered by hydraulic cylinders, this X-shaped framework provides balanced vertical movement without lateral sway. Made from reinforced steel, it ensures structural integrity under heavy loads. The design allows for compact storage when retracted while enabling significant height reach when extended.
3
Hydraulic System
The hydraulic system powers the lifting motion using pressurized fluid and cylinders. It delivers smooth, controlled elevation with minimal noise. Key components include pumps, valves, and hydraulic fluid reservoirs, all designed for longevity and leak resistance. Some models feature dual-cylinder systems for extra stability. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and prevents fluid leaks or pressure loss, extending the lift’s lifespan.
4
Control Box
The control box is the operator interface, typically mounted on the platform or base. It includes buttons or levers for lifting, lowering, and emergency stops. Modern versions may have digital displays for diagnostics. Designed for user-friendly operation, it often features keyed ignition and safety interlocks to prevent unauthorized use. Weather-resistant models are available for outdoor applications, ensuring reliability in harsh conditions.
Scissor Lift Standard Safety

Hydraulic System
- Ground Control Panel:Workers can use the ground control panel to control the lifting and lowering of the scissor platform. There is an emergency stop button on the panel in case of power failure or breakdown of the scissor lift machine.
- Platform Control Panel:The platform control panel can precisely control the driving speed of the machine, the lifting and lowering of platform. Also there is an emergency stop button at the side of the controller to keep safety.
- Overall Power Switch:The red overall power switch controls the entire scissor lift’s power. It must be turned on for operation; if the machine fails to work, pressing the emergency stop button will lower the platform.
- Tilt Alarming System:This system activates when the gradeability exceeds 3°, preventing machine tilting and ensuring user safety. For rough terrains, a versatile tracked scissor lift is recommended.
Components/Hardware
- Hydraulic SystemThe neatly arranged hydraulic system, comprising the hydraulic oil tank, pipes, and pump station, is easily accessible for inspection, maintenance, and replacement tasks through the openable chassis of KIRIN compact scissor lifts.
- Battery GroupScissor lifts are available with 24V/200A or 24V/270Ah battery options based on working height. These battery groups offer extended endurance, a charging protection system, and are ideal for energy-saving, safe indoor use.
- Work Indicating LightA lit work indicating light signifies normal operation; if unlit, users should check for faults. This light also serves as a safety warning, signaling people to maintain a safe distance from the operating scissor lift.
- PlatformThe platform provides a secure elevated workspace for operators.

Application

Small Scissor Lifts Application
The small scissor lift is highly compact and effortlessly portable. Its design allows it to fit into elevators, making it an excellent choice for precise indoor operations.

Tracked Scissor Lift Application
Mobile (manual pulling) scissor lifts provide an economical solution. These models are designed for easy relocation by manpower or with optional DC power assistance.

Tracked Scissor Lift Applications
Our electric and engine-powered scissor lifts, running on battery or diesel, offer dynamic mobility. They can move while elevated, performing comprehensive functions like lifting, driving, and steering.

Electric Scissor Aerial Work Platform Application.
KIRINLIFT scissor lifts are versatile aerial work platforms. They are ideal for diverse indoor and outdoor tasks including maintenance, cleaning, installation, and construction projects.

FAQ
Most Frequently Questions.
Considering safety and practicality, we will solve the most basic needs

What is the maximum working height?
Our scissor lifts range from 6m to 20m platform height. Exact capacity depends on model – check specifications for your application.
What power options are available?
We offer electric (battery-powered), diesel, and hybrid models – choose electric for indoor/quiet use, diesel for rough terrain.
What safety features are included?
All lifts have guardrails, emergency stops, overload sensors, and anti-crush systems. Some models add tilt alarms and dual controls.
What surface conditions are required?
Electric models need firm, level floors. Rough-terrain versions handle outdoor conditions but avoid slopes exceeding manufacturer limits.
What’s the maximum load capacity?
Standard models support 230-500kg. High-capacity industrial lifts can handle 1000kg+ – confirm requirements before selecting.
How often is maintenance needed?
Daily checks (controls, leaks), monthly lubrication, and annual professional inspections are mandatory for safe operation.
Can scissor lifts be used in rain?
Only IP-rated outdoor models are rain-safe. Never operate standard lifts in storms or wet conditions due to electrical risks.
The Cost of Scissor Lift
The price of a scissor lift is primarily determined by its load capacity, lift height, and platform size, with higher specifications commanding premium rates. However, final costs are also influenced by external market conditions, including fluctuations in steel and component material prices, currency exchange rate volatility, and the brand/quality of optional accessories (such as stabilizers, non-conductive platforms, or advanced control systems). Additionally, regional demand, import tariffs, and manufacturer pricing strategies may cause further variations in overall cost. Buyers should request up-to-date quotes to account for these dynamic factors.
